Last year, we were proud to share that we would continue our collaboration with Banedanmark in the delivery of a new IT system. In October, we went live with the last part of the delivery of Banedanmark’s new UTRUM-RID system.
The system is divided into two parts: the RID section deals with the monitoring of all dangerous goods on the Danish railways, while the UTRUM section handles operations with unusual transport.
With the RID section Banedanmark can monitor trains and dangerous goods in real-time, including an overview of associated risk profiles and temporary storage of dangerous goods on the Danish railway stations.
If the railway companies need to transport goods with a different cross-sectional profile than a standard wagon, the goods are measured, and an application is submitted to Banedanmark. Via UTRUM, Banedanmark is able to run an advanced calculation, deciding which tracks on the route may be used and where any restrictions, such as reduced speed limits, are located along the route.
The new system ensures that no manual corrections are needed after the calculations have been made, significantly reducing the risk of human error.
Christian Olsen, Product Lead Train & Booking at PICit A/S, states: “After months of hard work on this project, it is exciting to finally see the finished product in action. By closely collaborating with the system’s end-users, we developed a SaaS solution that not only enhances data integrity but also eliminates a lot of the manual processes.”
